CSI: Case File No.9

Title: Quirky Kid

This layout has been created for the CSI Case File No.9 prompt.

Here's the 'inspiration board' I had to work with...
I was really inspired by the case photo of the hot air balloon, and set out to duplicate them in a form of triple stamped, and layered dimensional embellishments.

Below is the technique of how I made the hot air balloons:

*I've used a hot air balloon stamp by Studio Calico.
  1. The 1st layer is stamped in black and heat embossed with embossing powder on off-white card stock.
  2. Next, since I did not have pink-red striped patterned paper, I had to improvise and stamp with a striped rubber stamp to make my own striped patterned paper.
  3. After stamping the stripes with red-pink dye ink, I again stamped the hot air balloon image over the stripes, and heat embossed it with black powder.
  4. Finally, I simply cut out the circular balloon shape, popped it on dimensional foam dots and placed it over the first stamped layer. And now you have a 3D accent to add dimension to your page!

*The single topmost (smaller) hot air balloon is a chipboard by Imaginarium Designs. I 'dressed it up' with creamy white paint, glitter stamping, and coloring with a blue glitter pen, and also a gold-leafing pen.

About the journaling:
This page presented me with a dilemma; The design of it claimed its 'white space' on the left side, and demanded that I do not fill it up. However, there was a substantial story I needed to tell about a recent event.
My solution has been a reliable one in quite a few situations such as this - type the journaling on a separate piece of card stock, staple a 'pull' tab, and place it behind the layout in the album's page protector. This method lets me tell the whole story without having to cut it short for a preset journaling spot, or the design limitations imposed on me by the available space left on the layout. This way I get to play and get carried away with design of the layout, but also guarantee that the story is recorded in its entirety.

Thank you all for visiting and commenting!

Irma, Im popping over from CSI. I saw your beautiful layout and hot air ballons there and had to pop over here for more details. The ballons are gorgeous and really worth the trouble you went to creat them.
The letter to your child touched my heart. You do have such a beautiful relationship. I hope that things improve with the school children soon
