Using plastic packaging in your scrapbooking layouts

Title: Slippery when Wet
I got this brilliant idea to use the celophane packaging from scrapbooking patterned paper as part of the layout element depicting underwater pond life.
The technique is rather simple, but it does take some preplanning as to where the different embellishment will be placed.

  1. I cut all three sides of the plastic square leaving only the left edge uncut (so it will open up like a page in a book).
  2. The photos and the top half of the layout is glued on top of the plastic.
  3. The second half of the layout (the underwater grass, rocks, and bottom patterned paper are all inside the plastic. Some elements like the fish and air bubbles are glued both on the inside and top layer of the plastic - this gives the piece a lovely 3D quality of depth and dimension.
  4. The grass vines are cut from cardstock with the mighty Genesis trimmer (a testament to the superb quality of this trimmer, that it can cut such thin slivers of paper).
  5. Everything here was glued with my Scotch ATG 714 dry adhesive gun, and glue dots.
  6. To singe the plastic from all sides when the layout is finished, it's useful to have a hot knife (mine is Walnut Hollow brand). You may also use a sewing machine or hand-stitching.
Here's some more detail shots of this piece:
